Serving Tray
HOW IT'S MADE
A stunning wooden tray handmade by artisans using the woodturning technique. Gather your afternoon tea or morning coffee with this artistic wooden tray. It is made from mango wood which gives it a premium feel and makes them durable. A skilled artisan fixes a rough-hewn circular block of wood at the head of the traditional lathe machine and hammers it in place by hand. The machine begins whirring as the artisan introduces a hand-held chisel to the block, and applies varying degrees of pressure to sculpt the desired shape and to smoothen the edges. Then carefully holding a lacquer stick, the surface is coated with practiced circular strokes. The heat ensuing from the lathe in motion gently melts the lacquer stick, dyeing the wood. A rough piece of canvas cloth is then used for a final polish. These rural artisans persevere to keep this craft alive despite stiff competition from the machine industry. Mango Wood is one of the most sustainable forms of wood because of the range of materials that can be extracted from a single bark
